CHICAGO, IL – Janet Evans, one of the greatest swimmers in the world and four-time Olympic gold medalist, will "go for the gold" with canola oil as a CanolaInfo spokesperson from April 2008 to April 2009. She will highlight the health benefits of canola oil in a wellness campaign targeting Americans before and after the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Evans will promote the health benefits of canola oil along with nutrition and wellness tips via US radio media tours, print and television interviews; live appearances, including one at the American Dietetic Association meeting in Chicago in October; promotional materials co-branded with the American Heart Association and other wellness-related organizations; print ads and the CanolaInfo web site. Photos and videos of Evans along with three "gold medal" recipes made with canola oil will soon debut at www.CanolaInfo.org.

"Every body wins with canola oil," says Evans. "It is one of the healthiest oils in the marketplace with the lowest amount of saturated fat of any common cooking oil and zero trans fat and cholesterol."

 hello

"Stay or get into winning shape by eating healthfully, exercising regularly, getting adequate sleep and minimizing stress," says Evans. "Nourish your body with heart-smart foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and canola oil."

The US Food and Drug Administration authorized a qualified health claim for canola oil due to its ability to help reduce the risk of heart disease. About 1.5 tablespoons a day is enough to protect against heart disease risk when used in place of saturated fat without increasing total daily calories.

Evans notes it is also heart smart to maintain a normal weight and be physically active, regardless of athletic ability.

"Try to burn as many calories as you eat daily," she recommends. "Swim, bike, run – whatever you enjoy. Just vary your activity and have fun. And get friends or family members involved so you can motivate each other."

Evans won five Olympic medals, 45 national titles and 17 international titles for distance swimming in her career. She broke a total of seven world records and still holds one world and one US record. Her last Olympic competition was in 1996. Today, Evans is a businesswoman, motivational speaker and mother.
