Whittle Your Waistline with Canola Oil

Scientific research showing canola oil’s benefit on the waistline is generating significant interest among consumer and health focused media. Research results show that consuming conventional or high-oleic canola oil may help to reduce abdominal fat in as little as four weeks. The study was conducted by Penn State University with support from the Canola Council of Canada. It was recently published in the journal Obesity.

Canola oil is high in monounsaturated fatty acids, which, “seem to specifically target abdominal fat,” said Penny M. Kris-Etherton, Ph,D, RD, one of the study researchers and Distinguished Professor of Nutrition at Penn State. Decreasing abdominal fat also reduces risk of adverse health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, reports Kris-Etherton.

The study findings were reported in a wide range of news publications, such as New York Daily News, Science Daily, Women’s Health and Nutrition Insight.
