Omega-3s May Lower Risk for Alzheimer’s Risk

A new study published in the May 2012 Neurology suggests even small increases in consumption of omega-3 fats, such as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) found in canola oil, may decrease beta-amyloid levels associated with Alzheimer’s disease. “This adds to the evidence that diet may play a role in [memory] decline,” said a researcher from Columbia University in New York. “We know that omega-3 helps protect against heart disease. Now there is emerging evidence that it may protect the brain as well as the heart.”
