Stock Up TV-Style

You might watch “Top Chef” every week, but have you ever thought about the construction and grocery bill for each episode? The show recently kicked off in Boston with new competitors and a freshly-built studio kitchen, which The Boston Globe breaks down into hard numbers. The set is 4,800 square feet, of which 2,000 is dedicated to just the pantry. There are 10 double refrigerators, two single refrigerators and two single freezers. Throughout the season, contestants will go through 20 cases of chicken stock and 40 gallons of canola oil. And you thought your grocery cart was full!
